India records 24,882 new COVID cases, tally tops 11.33 mn

New Delhi (NVI): India registered 24,882 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 1,13,33,728, according to Union Health Ministry data.

140 new COVID-19 fatalities have been reported across the country, taking the death toll to 1,58,446, while the case fatality ratio (CFR) is around 1.4 per cent across the country.

However, the daily new coronavirus cases continue to show a upward slide in India. At least 23,285 new cases were reported in India yesterday in comparison to 22,854 cases reported on the previous day and 17,921 cases a day prior.

Currently, a total of 1,09,73,260 patients have been cured an recovered across the country, while the active cases remained above 2 lakh mark and stands at 2,02,022.

In worst-affected Maharashtra 15,817 new coronavirus cases were reported on Friday, the highest number of single-day cases in nearly 6 months which increased the tally to 22,82,191.

The state is followed by Kerala with 10,87,443 and Karnataka with 9,53,813 positive cases and other worst hit states include Andhra Pradesh, (8,91,388), Tamil Nadu (8,58,272), Delhi (6,42,870) and Uttar Pradesh (6,04,958).

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data, more than 22.58 crore samples tested for COVID-19 up to March 13. Of these, 8,40,653 samples were tested yesterday,

In another development, around 2.82 crore (2,8218,457) beneficiaries have been vaccinated against COVID-19 since the beginning of vaccination drive in India, the Health Ministry data shows.
