India records 46,951 new Covid-19 cases, tally tops 11.6 mn

New Delhi (NVI): With 46,951 new coronavirus infections being reported in the last 24 hours, the highest increase in nearly 4 months, the overall tally has climbed to 11,646,081, the Union Health Ministry confirmed today.

India has been recording more than 40,000 positive cases for three consecutive days. The country recorded 43,846 fresh Covid cases on Sunday and 40,953 cases on Saturday.

The death count climbed to 1,59,967 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 212 lives during this period, the data showed.

Despite the increase of COVID-19 cases across states and union territories in the country, the coronavirus mortality rate remains below two percent.

Currently, more than 1.11 crore patients have been cured and recovered across the country and the total number of recoveries stands at 11,151,468.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 active caseload increased to 3,34,646 with an increase of 25,559 cases in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra reported more than 30,000 new cases since yesterday. Furthermore, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have also been showing a worrying surge Covid cases.

With this, Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with 24,79,682 COVID-19 cases followed by Kerala with 11,04,228 and Karnataka with 9,70,202 positive cases.

The other worst hit states are Andhra Pradesh (8,93,734), Tamil Nadu (8,66,982), Delhi (6,47,984) and Uttar Pradesh (6,07,538).
