India records 9,309 new Covid cases, 87 deaths

New Delhi (NVI): With 9,309 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, India’s coronavirus cases tally reached 10,880,603, the Union Health Ministry confirmed today.

The death count climbed to 1,55,447 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 87 lives during this period, the data showed. The COVID-19 case fatality rate stood at 1.43 per cent.

Currently, more than 1.05 crore patients have been cured and recovered across the country and the total number of recoveries stand at 10,589,230 pushing the national recovery rate to 97.32 per cent.

There are 1,35,926 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which accounts for 1.25 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

In worst-affected Maharashtra, the COVID-19 cases increased to 20,52,905 followed by Kerala with 9,88,655 and Karnataka with 9,44,057 positive cases.

The other worst hit states are Andhra Pradesh (8,88,692), Tamil Nadu (8,43,690), Delhi (6,36,529) and Uttar Pradesh (6,01,898).

Meanwhile, the number of healthcare and frontline workers vaccinated against COVID-19 has reached 75 lakh on day 27 of the nationwide inoculation drive, the ministry stated.
