India records 96,982 fresh Covid cases, total climbs over 1.26 crore

New Delhi (NVI): India recorded 96,982 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, lower than the previous day’s record rise of over 1 lakh cases. The overall tally has now climbed to 12,686,049, the Union Health Ministry confirmed today.

The death count climbed to 1,65,547 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 446 lives during this period, the data showed.

Yesterday, India had recorded 1,03,558 new coronavirus cases. Apart from that, 478 new COVID-19 fatalities were reported across the country.

Currently, more than 1.17 crore patients have been cured and recovered across the country and the total number of recoveries stands at 11,732,279.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 active caseload increased to 7,88,223 with an increase of 46,393 cases in the last 24 hours.

Of the 96,982 cases India counted on Monday, over 47,000 infections were reported from Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, Punjab recorded a massive spike of more than 22,000 cases in the last 24 hours.

The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (30,57,885), Kerala (11,37,590), Karnataka (10,20,434), Andhra Pradesh (9,09,002), and Tamil Nadu (9,03,479).
