India records increase in fresh Covid cases, deaths

New Delhi: India witnessed an increase in single-day COVID numbers, with 12,608 fresh Covid cases and 72 fatalities being registered in the last 24 hours, Union Health Ministry said today.

The country’s active caseload stood at 1,01,343 constituting 0.23% of the total Covid cases, it said.

The cumulative death toll due to the pandemic since 2020 rose to 5,27,206.

The recovery rate is currently at 98.58%, with 16,251 patients being recovered in the last 24 hours, the ministry said.

With this the cumulative recoveries across the country have reached 4,36,70,315, it said.

The daily positivity rate stands at 3.48% and the weekly positivity rate is at 4.20%, the Ministry said.

With the administration of 38,64,471 COVID-19 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, the country’s cumulative vaccination coverage has reached 208.95 crores.

Yesterday, the country registered 9,062 fresh Covid cases and 36 fatalities in 24 hours.

A day prior to that, the country registered 8,813 fresh Covid cases and 29 fatalities in 24 hours.

On Monday, the country registered 14,917 fresh Covid cases in 24 hours.
