New Delhi (NVI): In yet another biggest single-day spike of Covid-19 cases, India today reported 1,52,879 fresh infections since yesterday, with 839 more related deaths across the country, according to Union Health Ministry.
India is battling the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic is currently the fourth worst-hit country in the world.
This is the fifth consecutive day that India has recorded more than 1 lakh cases in a day. Yesterday, India had recorded 1,45,384 new coronavirus infections and 794 deaths.
The overall caseload in the country now stands at 1,33,58,805 while the death toll has risen to 1,69,275, as per Health Ministry’s latest data.
There are 11,08,087 active cases in India. 1,20,81,443 Covid patients have recovered from the virus, with a recovery rate of 90.80 per cent. In the past 24 hours, 90,584 patients recovered.
Meanwhile, the four-day ‘Tika Utsav’ (vaccination festival) from April 11-14 begins today on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule. The festival will continue till the birth anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar on 14 April.
The Tika Utsav comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with state chief ministers on Thursday to help people eligible for vaccination to get immunised during the period.
“We’re going to begin ‘Tika Utsav’ from today across the country. I urge countrymen to abide by 4 things in this phase of battle against corona…,” PM tweeted with a link to a message on his website.

“First, Each One- Vaccinate, meaning those who can’t go themselves for vaccination, such as illiterate and old people, should be assisted.
“Second, Each One- Treat One. This involves helping people in getting Corona treatment, who do not have resources or knowledge to get it.
“Third, Each One- Save One, meaning I should wear mask and save myself and others. This should be stressed.
“Finally, society and people should lead in creating ‘micro containment zones’. Family members and community members should create ‘micro containment zone’, in case of even a single positive case. ‘Micro containment zones’ are a key component of fight against Corona in a densely populated country like India,” the Prime Minister said in message.
Meanwhile, India’s cumulative vaccination coverage has achieved a landmark of 10 crore with over 35 lakh doses given in the last 24 hours. India continues to administer highest average doses per day, the Health Ministry said.
Ten States including Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan have shown a rise in the COVID daily new cases. 80.92% of the new cases are reported from these 10 states.
