New Delhi (NVI): The Indian Army today successfully launched its BrahMos supersonic cruise missile in a top-attack configuration, hitting a target in the Bay of Bengal with pin point accuracy. The test was conducted from the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago.
The launch comes over a month after the Naval version of the BrahMos missile was successfully test-fired from the indigenously-built stealth destroyer INS Chennai, hitting a target in the Arabian Sea. The test fire is said to be the first in a series of tests of the missile system and more tests are expected by the Navy and the Indian Air Force in the coming days.

The strike range of BrahMos missile has now been enhanced to over 400 km. Brahmos is a universal long-range supersonic cruise missile system that can be launched from land, sea and air. The missile been jointly developed by DRDO, India, and the Russian rocket design bureau Mashinostroyenia.
