Naushera (Jammu and Kashmir): The Indian Army today said it has prevented a group of heavily-armed terrorists from sneaking into Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), killing one of the infiltrators and forcing others to retreat, 2 of them with bullet wounds.
The infiltration attempt was made by the terrorists via the Naushera Sector in Jammu region but it was detected in time and neutralised by the alert Indian troops.
“Alert troops of Indian Army on night of 10th July foiled a major infiltration bid along the Line of Control in the Naushera Sector over two nights in a deliberate and massive operation,” Defence spokesman Lt Col Suneel Bartwal said in a statement here.
He said the ambush parties of the Indian Army, deployed along the Line of Control, noticed on the midnight of July 10-11 a group of terrorists moving from across the LoC towards this side.
“Own alert troops kept the movement of the infiltrators under constant observation, and when they were nearly 300 meters inside own side of Line of Control, they were challenged and a firefight ensued,” Col Bartwal said.
He said heavy and accurate fire was brought down on the terrorists and one terrorist was seen falling to the side.
Two other terrorists were injured and seen taking cover in the jungle, he said while pointing out that the area of operation was a broken ground having thick foliage and the weather was inclement.
Additional troops were moved in and the area was cordoned off, the spokesman said.
“In a deliberate and massive search operation lasting over two days and two nights, in an area which is heavily mined, in inclement weather conditions, body of one terrorist who was neutralized, has been recovered with weapon and war like stores,” he said.
“During further search operations into the jungle, blood trail with drag marks on ground, were observed leading towards the line of control,” Col Bartwal said, adding possibly, the injured terrorists, taking advantage of the forest foliage, managed to move back across the Line of Control.
The Army recovered one AK 47 Rifle, three AK Magazines with 175 Rounds, one 9 mm Pistol, two Magazines with 15 Rounds, 4 Hand Grenades, communication equipment, large quantity of eatables and clothing for sustenance, he said.
“By their quick action, alert Indian Army troops deployed in the Naushera Sector have eliminated a major infiltration bid, which was aimed to disturb the peace in Rajouri District,” the spokesman said.
The India Army continues to remain alert on the Line of Control and is fully prepared to thwart such attempts in the future too, he asserted.
