New Delhi (NVI): Adding to its lethal fire-power, Indian Army has inducted precision guided American 155MM Excalibur artillery ammunition while it is all set to add indigenously designed and developed Dhanush howitzer artillery gun to its inventory soon, a biennial Army Commanders Conference was informed here on October 16.
The 155MM Excalibur, which can hit targets at extended ranges, has fulfilled the long-felt need of Precision Guided Munitions in Indian Army. The Made-in-India Dhanush, as an artillery system, has proved to be one of the best amongst its class, creating a buzz among arms manufacturers. A 45 Calibre towed gun system is also capable of targeting at long ranges and incorporates laying features with of the most sophisticated suites of electronic and computing systems in the world.
The revelation about the addition of the two sophisticated hi-tech weapon systems in Indian Army inventory came at Army Commanders’ Conference, which also discussed operational readiness, training, higher defence management and restructuring and human resource development and employment. The Conference is held every year in April and October.
It was informed at the Conference that India Army has also decided to roll-out a new system of Honour Code. On the higher defence management and restructuring, the Conference discussed the requirement of Joint Services Act. It may be noted that at present, each Service has an individual Act passed by Parliament. Joint Services Act on approval by the Government will facilitate faster integration of Indian armed forces.
The Conference also dwelt upon the issue of creation of the new post of the Chief of Defence Staff, sources said adding that necessity of adding various new dimensions of training of armed forces, involving space and artificial intelligence, too came up for discussions.
The Army Commanders also discussed proposals about giving enhanced grants for personnel, who are invalidated out of service due to injuries and disabilities before 10 years of service.
