New Delhi, Jun 19 (NVI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will commission three indigenously built frontline naval platforms — INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak and INS Agray — at a ceremony in Kolkata on June 21, the Indian Navy said on Friday.

Designed by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau and built by grse in the three platforms represent key operational capabilities in maritime combat, hydrographic surveying and anti-submarine warfare.

INS Dunagiri, the fifth Project 17A stealth frigate, is equipped with advanced weapons and sensors, including BrahMos surface-to-surface missiles and the Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile system, enhancing the Navy’s combat capabilities.

INS Sanshodhak, the fourth Survey Vessel (Large), is designed to undertake coastal and deep-water hydrographic surveys and collect oceanographic and geophysical data for defence and civil applications. It is equipped with advanced survey systems, including Autonomous Underwater Vehicles and Remotely Operated Vehicles.

INS Agray, the fourth Arnala-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft, is fitted with lightweight torpedoes, indigenous rocket launchers and shallow-water sonar systems to detect and engage underwater threats in littoral waters.

According to the Navy, the three vessels have an indigenous content of over 75 per cent and were built with the participation of more than 200 MSMEs, generating significant direct and indirect employment.

The commissioning of the platforms underscores India’s growing indigenous shipbuilding capabilities and reflects the country’s push towards self-reliance in defence manufacturing under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, officials said.(NVI)
