New Delhi (NVI): India’s coronavirus tally stands at 36,91,167, with the confirmation of single-day spike of 69,921 positive cases in the last 24 hours, Union Health Ministry said.
The country’s death toll now stands at 65,288 with 819 new fatalities being reported during this period.
So far, 28,39,883 patients have been cured and recovered all over the country while active cases stands at 7,85,996.
With this, the recovery rate in India improves to 77 percent (76.94 percent) and death rate slips to 1.77 percent.
In worst-hit Maharashtra, the coronavirus cases climbed to 7,92,541, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 4,34,771 cases, and Tamil Nadu with 4,28,041 cases.
The other worst high virus hit states are Karnataka (3,42,423), Uttar Pradesh (2,30,414), Delhi (1,74,748) and West Bengal (1,62,778).
Maharashtra has also reported the highest number of fatalities at 24,583 followed by 7,322 deaths in Tamil Nadu.
The death toll in the national capital rose to 4,444, while 1,55,678 patients in Delhi have recovered so far, the healthy ministry data shows.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a cumulative total of 4,33,24,834 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to August 31 with 10,16,920 samples being tested yesterday.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath yesterday emphasised on more aggressive testing for COVID-19 till a vaccine is developed. “If door-to-door surveys and testing are strengthened, there will be more success against the disease,” he added.
