New Delhi (NVI): The total number of coronavirus cases in India increased to 10,099,066 with a single-day rise of 23,950 fresh cases in the past 24 hours, Union Health Ministry confirmed.
The country’s death toll due to the virus rose to 1,46,444, with 333 patients succumbing to the infection since yesterday.
At present, 96,63,382 patients have been cured an recovered across the country, while the active cases remained below 3-lakh mark and stands at 2,89,240.
In worst-hit Maharashtra, the COVID-19 cases crossed 19-lakh mark and stands at 19,02,458 followed by Karnataka with 9,11,382 cases, and Andhra Pradesh with 8,79,339 cases.
The other worst affected states are Tamil Nadu (8,99,014), Kerala (7,15,341), Delhi (6,18,747) and Uttar Pradesh (5,76,832).
Meanwhile, of the total deaths, Maharashtra tops the tally with 48,876 fatalities, followed by Karnataka with 12,029 deaths.
The death toll in the national capital surpassed to 10,329, while 5,99,683 patients have been cured and recovered so far, the healthy ministry data shows.
As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data, over 16.42 crore samples tested for COVID-19 up to December 22. Of these, 10,98,164 samples were tested yesterday.
Furthermore, the Puducherry government yesterday said there would be no ban on new year celebrations in the UT and the beach road would be open for the public. But there should be strict adherence to COVID-related safety norms of social distancing and wearing of masks
