New Delhi (NVI): The coronavirus cases in India saw the single-day rise of 18,222 in the last 24 hours, taking the total number to 10,431,639, Union Health Ministry confirmed.
The death toll due to the virus rose to 1,50,798, with 228 new fatalities being reported during the same period.
Currently, over 10 million patients have been cured and recovered across the country, while the active cases remained below 2.3 lakh mark and stands at 2,24,190. With this, the national recovery rate improves further to 96.4 percent in India.
In worst-affected Maharashtra, the COVID-19 cases increased to 19,61,975 followed by Karnataka with 9,25,868 and Andhra Pradesh with 8,84,490 positive cases.
The other worst hit states are Tamil Nadu (8,24,776), Kerala (8,01,075), Delhi (6,29,282) and Uttar Pradesh (5,91,610).
Meanwhile, of the total fatalities, Maharashtra tops the tally with 49,970 deaths, followed by Karnataka with 12,134 fatalities.
The death toll in the national capital surpassed to 10,654, while 6,14,849 patients have been cured and discharged so far, the healthy ministry data shows.
As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data, more than 18 crore samples tested for COVID-19 up to January 8. Of these, 9,16,951 samples were tested yesterday.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with Chief Ministers of all states via video conferencing. They will discuss the COVID-19 situation and the vaccination rollout.
