India’s COVID tally crosses 1.58 lakh; death toll 4,531

New Delhi (NVI): The total number of coronavirus cases in India now stands at 1,58,333, with 4,531 deaths due to the pandemic, Union Health Ministry said.

At least 6,566 new cases of coronavirus and 194 deaths have been reported in India in the last 24 hours.

In the worst-hit Maharashtra, the COVID-19 cases climbed to 56,948, followed by Tamil Nadu with 18,549 cases, and Gujarat with 15,257 cases.

Maharashtra has also reported the highest number of fatalities at 1,897, followed by 938 in Gujarat and 313 in Madhya Pradesh.

The coronavirus cases in Delhi have increased to 15,257 with 303 deaths reported so far, according to the Health Ministry data.

Other states with high virus cases are Rajasthan (7,703), Madhya Pradesh (7,261), and Uttar Pradesh (6,991).

The rise in cases comes amid easing of lockdown relaxations and the restarting of one-third of all domestic flights.

So far, number of active cases stands at 86,110 and 67,692 people have been cured/discharged.

The health ministry said that the recovery rate has improved further to cross 42 per cent.

Meanwhile, Telangana government has decided to open all shops except those in malls in Hyderabad from today.
