India’s COVID tally crosses 31.6 lakh; death toll 58,390

New Delhi (NVI): At least 60,975 new cases of coronavirus and 848 fatalities have been reported in India in the last 24 hours.

The total number of coronavirus cases in India now stands at 31,67,323, with 58,390 deaths due to the pandemic, Union Health Ministry said.

As many as 24,04,585 COVID-19 patients have been cured and discharged so far, while number of active cases stands at 7,04,348 in the country.

In the worst-hit Maharashtra, the COVID-19 cases climbed to 6,93,398, followed by Tamil Nadu with 3,85,352 cases, and Andhra Pradesh with 3,61,712 cases.

Other states with high virus cases are Karnataka (2,83,665), Uttar Pradesh (1,92,382), and West Bengal (1,41,837).

The coronavirus cases in national capital have increased to 1,62,527 with 4,313 deaths reported so far, according to the Health Ministry data.

Maharashtra has also reported the highest number of fatalities at 22,465, followed by 6,614 in Tamil Nadu.

According to ICMR, as on August 24, the cumulative number of 3,68,27,520 samples have been tested so far and 9,25,383 samples were tested yesterday.

Meanwhile, in the ‘Unlock 4’ phase beginning September 1, metro train services are likely to be allowed but schools and colleges are unlikely to reopen anytime soon, officials said.
