India’s COVID tally crosses 37.6 lakh; death toll 66,333

New Delhi (NVI): At least 78,357 new cases of coronavirus and 1,045 deaths have been reported in India in the last 24 hours.

The total number of coronavirus cases in India now stands at 37,69,523, with 66,333 deaths due to the pandemic, Union Health Ministry said.

So far, 29,01,908 patients have been cured and recovered all over the country while active cases stands at 8,01,282.

With this, the recovery rate in India improved further to 77 per cent.

In worst-hit Maharashtra, the coronavirus cases climbed to 8,08,306, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 4,45,139 cases, and Tamil Nadu with 4,33,969 cases.

The other worst high virus hit states are Karnataka (3,51,481), Uttar Pradesh (2,35,757), Delhi (1,77,060) and West Bengal (1,65,721).

Maharashtra has also reported the highest number of fatalities at 24,903 followed by 7,418 deaths in Tamil Nadu.

The death toll in the national capital rose to 4,462, while 1,56,728 patients in Delhi have recovered so far, the healthy ministry data shows.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a cumulative total of 4,43,37,201 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to September 1 with 10,12,367 samples being tested yesterday.

Meanwhile, the government is likely to announce today the fresh set of standard operating procedures (SOP) to resume Metro services under the Unlock 4 guidelines which are set to resume in a graded manner from September 7.
