New Delhi (NVI): The number of coronavirus cases in India reached 27,02,742 after 55,079 fresh cases were reported in the last 24 hours, Union Health Ministry said.
The country’s death toll has gone up to 51,797 with 876 new fatalities being reported during this period.
As many as 19,77,779 COVID-19 patients have been cured and discharged so far. With this, the recovery rate in India improved to over 72 per cent.
In worst-hit Maharashtra the coronavirus tally reaches 6,04,358, followed by Tamil Nadu (3,43,945) Andhra Pradesh (2,96,609) and Delhi (1,53,367).
The other worst affected states are Karnataka (2,33,283), Uttar Pradesh (1,58,216), West Bengal (1,19,578) and Gujarat (79,710).
In terms of fatalities, Maharashtra tops the tally with 20,265 deaths, ministry said.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a cumulative total of 3,09,41,264 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to August 17 with 8,99,864 samples being tested yesterday.
Meanwhile, the West Bengal government yesterday launched a COVID Patient Management System to deal with admission and treatment-related issues at the hospitals.
