New Delhi (NVI): The number of coronavirus cases in India reached 19,64,536 after the country reported of 56,282 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, Union Health Ministry said.
The country’s death toll stands at 40,699 with 904 new fatalities being reported during this period.
As many as 13,28,336 COVID-19 patients have been cured and discharged so far. With this, the recovery rate stands at 67.62 percent in India.
In worst-affected Maharashtra the coronavirus tally reaches 4,68,265, followed by Tamil Nadu (2,73,460), Andhra Pradesh (1,86,461) and Delhi (1,40,232).
The other worst affected states in the country are, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and West Bengal.
In terms of fatalities, Maharashtra tops the tally with 16,476 deaths, ministry said.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the total of 2,21,49,351 samples were tested for COVID-19 in the country till August 5. Of these, 6,64,949 were tested yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Drug maker Zydus Cadila will start the second phase of clinical trials of its vaccine candidate from today. The company had received the central drugs controller’s approval for human trials on July 2.
