India’s Covid tally over 22.6 lakh; death toll at 45,257

New Delhi (NVI): The number of coronavirus cases in India reached 22,68,675 after the country reported of 53,601 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, Union Health Ministry said.

The country’s death toll stands at 45,257 with 871 new fatalities being reported during this period.

As many as 15,83,490 COVID-19 patients have been cured and discharged so far.

In worst-affected Maharashtra the coronavirus tally reaches 5,24,513, followed by Tamil Nadu (3,02,815), Andhra Pradesh (2,35,525) and Delhi (1,46,134).

The other worst affected states in the country are Karnataka (1,82,354), Uttar Pradesh (1,26,722), West Bengal (98,495) and Gujarat (72,031).

In terms of fatalities, Maharashtra tops the tally with 16,476 deaths, ministry said.

The death toll in Delhi surged to 4,131 while another 1,31,657 patients in the national capital have recovered so far, healthy ministry data shows.

According to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the total number of COVID-19 samples tested up to August 10 is 2,52,81,848, out of which 6,98,290 samples tested yesterday.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal government extended the ban till August 31 on flights to Kolkata from six cities, including Delhi and Mumbai, with a high number of coronavirus cases.
