India’s Covid tally over 6.73 lakh, deaths nearing 20,000 mark

New Delhi (NVI): 24,850 new coronavirus cases have been recorded in India in the past 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 6,73,165. There have been 19,268 deaths due to the virus so far.

India is roughly 800 cases behind Russia, which is the third-worst sufferer from coronavirus. According to the health ministry data, there are 2,44,814 active cases at present while 4,09,082 have been cured or discharged.

Maharashtra remains the worst-hit state in the country, with a record single-day spike of 7,074 new cases on Saturday. COVID deaths in the state continued to rise with 295 deaths, taking the toll to 8,671. Of these, 124 were reported in the last 48 hours.

Meanwhile, with 1,163 new cases, Mumbai now has 83,237 cases. The city has recorded 68 deaths due to coronavirus in the last 48 hours, taking its toll to 4,762. Mumbai is also facing heavy monsoon rains.

Delhi has recorded 2,505 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the tally to over 97,000, while the death toll in the national capital has climbed to 3,004. According to the Delhi health department, fifty-five fatalities were recorded in the last 24 hours.
