India’s COVID tally tops 10.34 million with 16,505 new cases

New Delhi (NVI): India coronavirus tally has crossed the 66-lakh mark and stands at 66,23,816, with a single-day jump of 74,442 new cases in last 24 hours, Union Health Ministry said.

The country’s death toll has gone up to 1,02,685 with 903 new fatalities being reported during the same period.

So far, 55,86,704 patients have recovered all over the country, while active cases stands at 9,34,427. The recovery rate also improves further to 84.34 per cent.

In terms of total number of cases, Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state with 14,43,409 coronavirus cases followed by Andhra Pradesh with 7,19,255 cases, Tamil Nadu with 6,19,996 positive cases.

The other worst affected states included Karnataka (6,40,661), Uttar Pradesh (4,14,466) and Delhi (2,90,613).

In terms of fatalities, Maharashtra tops the tally with 38,084 deaths followed by Tamil Nadu 9,784, ministry said.

The death toll in the national capital surged to 5,510 while another 2,60,350 patients have been cured so far, healthy ministry data shows.

As per the Indian Council Medical Research (ICMR) data, a total of 7,99,82,394 samples tested for COVID-19 up to October 4. Of these, 9,89,860 samples were tested yesterday.

Meanwhile, all schools in the national capital will continue to remain closed till October 31 in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, Delhi government officials said.
