India’s Covid tally reaches 99.7 lakh with 22,889 new cases

New Delhi (NVI): India has reported 22,889 fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the overall caseload to 99,79,447, Union Health Ministry confirmed.

The country’s death toll has reached to 1,44,789 with 338 fatalities reported during this period.

However, this is for the fifth consecutive day when fewer than 30,000 new cases, less than 350 deaths were reported in the country.

Notably, 95,20,827 patients have been cured and recovered all over the country while active cases remained below 3.15 lakh and stands at 3,13,831.

In worst-affected Maharashtra, the COVID-19 cases increase to 18,86,807, followed by Karnataka with 9,05,901 cases, and Andhra Pradesh with 8,77,348 positive cases.

Other states with a high virus hit included Tamil Nadu (8,03,516), Kerala (6,88,409) and Uttar Pradesh (5,70,789).

Meanwhile, of the total deaths, Maharashtra tops the tally with 48,499 fatalities, followed by Karnataka with 11,981 deaths.

Delhi also reported 1,363 new COVID-19 cases in past 24 hours, taking the tally to 6,13,357 while the death toll from the virus has reached 10,182 in the national capital.

As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data, more than 15.89 crore samples tested for COVID-19 up to December 17. Of these, 11,13,406 samples were tested yesterday.

Furthermore, the Karnataka government has banned special DJ events, dance parties and other celebrations between December 30 and January 2 amid COVID-19 pandemic.
