India’s covid tally rises by 13,203 fresh cases, 131 deaths

New Delhi (NVI): India saw a rise of 13,203 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of coronavirus cases to 10,667,736, Union Health Ministry confirmed.

The death toll due to the virus rose to 1,53,470, with 131 new fatalities being reported during the same period.

Currently, the number of recovered cases in the country have crossed 10.3 million and stands at 10,330,084.

Meanwhile, active coronavirus cases in India have dropped below the 2-lakh mark and stands at 1,84,182 at a time when the country is undergoing the world’s biggest vaccination drive.

The country continues to be second-most-affected globally, and ranks 13th among worst-hit nations by active cases.

Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with 20,09,106 covid cases followed by Karnataka with 9,36,051 cases and Andhra Pradesh with 8,87,010 cases.

In another development, over 16 lakh healthcare workers across India have received shots of Covid-19 vaccine till January 24, the ninth day of the nationwide immunisation drive.
