India’s COVID tally rises by 1,45,384 new cases, 794 deaths

New Delhi (NVI): India recorded 1,45,384 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, the biggest-ever daily surge the country has witnessed so far.

The overall tally has now climbed to 13,205,926, the Union Health Ministry confirmed today.

The death count climbed to 1,68,436 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 794 lives during this period, the data showed.

Yesterday, India had recorded 1,31,968 new coronavirus cases. Apart from that, 780 new COVID-19 fatalities were reported across the country.

Currently, more than 1.19 crore patients have been cured and recovered across the country and the total number of recoveries stands at 11,990,859.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 active caseload increased to 10,46,631 with an increase of 67,023 cases in the last 24 hours.

Of the 1,45,384 cases, India counted on Friday, nearly 59,000 infections were reported from Maharashtra, while Chhattisgarh scaled a new peak of 11,000 cases.

The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (32,88,540), Kerala (11,54,010), Karnataka (10,48,085), Andhra Pradesh (9,18,597), and Tamil Nadu (9,20,827).
