New Delhi (NVI): With 59,118 new coronavirus infections being reported in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day rise in over five months, the overall tally has climbed to 11,846,652, the Union Health Ministry confirmed today.
India recorded more than 50,000 positive cases for the second consecutive day. The country recorded 53,476 fresh Covid cases on Thursday and 47,262 fresh Covid cases on Wednesday.
The death count climbed to 1,60,949 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 257 lives during this period, the data showed.
Currently, more than 1.12 crore patients have been cured and recovered across the country and the total number of recoveries stands at 11,264,637.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 active caseload increased to 4,21,066 with an increase of 25,874 cases in the last 24 hours, which comprises 3.35 percent of the total positive cases.
Maharashtra reported 35,952 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, its single-highest surge in 24 hours since the beginning of the pandemic, along with 111 deaths.
With this, Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with 26,00,833 COVID-19 cases followed by Kerala with 11,11,897 and Karnataka with 9,78,478 positive cases.
The other worst hit states are Andhra Pradesh (8,95,879), Tamil Nadu (8,73,219), Delhi (6,52,742) and Uttar Pradesh (6,10,273).
