New Delhi (NVI): India recorded a massive surge with 89,129 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, the biggest single-day rise in more than six months. The overall tally has climbed to 12,392,260, the Union Health Ministry confirmed today.
The death count climbed to 1,64,110 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 714 lives during this period, the data showed.
Yesterday, India had recorded 81,466 new coronavirus cases. Apart from that, 469 new COVID-19 fatalities were reported across the country.
Currently, more than 1.15 crore patients have been cured and recovered across the country and the total number of recoveries stands at 11,569,241.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 active caseload increased to 6,58,909 with an increase of 44,213 cases in the last 24 hours.
Of the 89,129 new infections, 47,913 were from Maharashtra. Karnataka also reported nearly 5,000 cases.
The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (2,904,076), Kerala (1,129,890), Karnataka (1,006,229), Andhra Pradesh (904,548), and Tamil Nadu (892,780).
In another development, the number of vaccine doses that have been administered so far is 7,30,54,295, of which almost 31 lakh were administered in the last 24 hours.
