New Delhi (NVI): A Boeing 737 passenger plane of Indonesia’s Sriwijaya Air, with more than 50 passengers onboard, is feared to have crashed today as it went missing soon after take-off from Jakarta airport.
Sriwijaya Air flight SJY182 took off from the airport in Indonesian capital and was headed to Pontianak in West Kalimantan province, according to media reports.
The flight lost more than 10,000 feet of altitude in less than one minute, about 4 minutes after departure from Jakarta.
It is now being feared that the plane has crashed into the sea. The flight had more than 50 people on board, The Mirror reported.
In addition to this, suspected debris of the flight had been found. Residents of Thousand Island said they heard two explosions before finding items in the sea, The Mirror stated quoting the Indonesia rescue agency.
Meanwhile, Sriwijaya Air, an Indonesian airline, said in a statement that it is still gathering more detailed information regarding the flight before it can make any statement.
