Srinagar: The Army, with the help of Jammu and Kashmir Police, today foiled an attempt by terrorists to sneak into Kashmir from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, killing 2 infiltrators near the Line of Control (LoC).
The infiltrating terrorists were neutralised before they could enter Kashmir via the Machhil sector, Police and Army said.
“Based on specific intelligence inputs recieved from JKP and other intelligence agencies, of likely infiltration attempt in Macchal Sector, troops were put on high alert and joint ambushes of JKP and Army laid on likely routes of infiltration,” Srinagar-based Defence Spokesman said.
“At around 7.30AM on 25 Sep, in prevailing poor weather conditions, alert troops observed two armed infiltrators crossing the LoC near Tekri Nar, Macchal,” he said.
The infiltrating terrorists were engaged by the alert Indian troops, the spokesman said.
“Firefight ensued, resulting in both terrorists getting neutralised,” he added.
From the slain terrorists, the Army recovered 2 AK-47 rifles, 6 AK magazines, 53 bullets of AK-47, 4 hand grenades, 2 pistols, 2 pistol Magazines and 35 bullets of pistol.
The other recoveries included Pakistani currency of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 denominations and some food items, the spokesman said.
