Poonch (Jammu and Kashmir): Indian Army once again foiled Pakistan’s nefarious attempt to send armed terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir to disturb peace as it killed two infiltrators near the Line of Control (LoC) today.
Defence PRO said multiple intelligence agencies and Jammu and Kashmir Police had given inputs about terrorists waiting to cross the LoC via the Balakote Sector in Poonch district.
Based on these inputs, surveillance grid was placed on heightened alert and multiple ambushes were set up at suitable locations, he said.
On the morning of August 21, alert Indian troops noticed two terrorists making an attempt to cross the LoC towards this side of Jammu and Kashmir.
They were trying to make use of inclement weather, dense fog, thick foliage and undulating ground in Hamirpur area of Balakote Sector, he said.
As the terrorists moved close to the Indian ambush sites, they were challenged and then engaged with effective fire, the PRO said.
“This forced the terrorists to flee from the ambush site by making use of weather and ground conditions,” he said.
“However, effective fire resulted in one terrorist falling down on the ground near the LoC,” the PRO said.
Additional troops were then moved into the area and search operations commenced in the afternoon after improvement of weather conditions and visibility, he said.
The search of the area led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle with two magazines, 30 rounds, two grenades and Pakistan-origin medicines, he said.
During search, blood trails leading towards LoC were also detected, the PRO said.
“As per intelligence inputs, the two terrorists who attempted to infiltrate were injured due to fire from own troops, but still managed to return across the LoC and later they succumbed to their injuries,” he said.
“Own troops continue to remain on alert and maintain vigil to foil any attempts of infiltration,” the Defence PRO said.
