Srinagar: An infiltration attempt by a group of Pakistani terrorists was foiled today by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police with the killing of 3 terrorists in a heavily-forested area of Uri sector along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir.
This infiltration attempt came 2 days after a similar unsuccessful bid by terrorists to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) via the Rajouri sector of the LoC in Jammu region.
“Army and Baramulla Police #neutralised 03 #infiltrators (FTs) near Madiyan Nanak post in #Kamalkote sector of #Uri. More details to be followed,” Kashmir Zone police tweeted this afternoon. FT stands for foreign terrorists.
In a statement here, Defence Ministry’s spokesperson said the operation was launched yesterday on the basis of specific intelligence from Army Intelligence agencies.
“Consequently, on 24th Aug afternoon multiple ambushes were laid to trap the infiltrators,” he said.
Intensive electronic surveillance of the suspected area led to detection of the attempt at 7 AM today, the Defence spokesperson said.
“Terrorists were hoping to use the cover of thick undergrowth, foliage and continuous rain and low clouds to infiltrate,” he said.
“The contact with terrorists was established at about 08.45 AM on 25 Aug 22 in the forward areas Indian side of the LoC, leading to heavy exchange of fire in which the terrorists were killed. Detailed search of the area was concluded at 2 PM,” the spokesperson added.
Two days back, the Indian Army killed 2 terrorists who were trying to infiltrate through the Pukharni village of Naushera sector under the cover of darkness.
