Punjab, Apr 4 (NVI): In a major breakthrough, Punjab Police on Saturday busted an alleged Pakistan-backed terror module linked to the recent blast outside the BJP office in Chandigarh, arresting five accused and recovering a hand grenade and a foreign-made firearm.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the case was cracked in a coordinated operation by Punjab Police’s Counter-Intelligence wing along with Chandigarh Police, unraveling a well-structured network allegedly operating under instructions from Pakistan-based handlers linked to the ISI.

The arrested accused have been identified as Balwinder Lal alias Shami, Jasvir Singh alias Jassi, Charanjit Singh alias Channi, Rubal Chauhan, and Mandeep alias Abhijot Sharma.

Police said a .30 bore Zigana pistol along with ammunition and an explosive grenade were recovered from their possession, indicating the group’s operational capability.

Preliminary investigations suggest the module was part of a larger cross-border conspiracy, with operatives facilitating the movement of arms and explosives through a coordinated chain before reaching the final attackers.

Officials said two key perpetrators directly involved in executing the blast have also been identified, and efforts are ongoing to track down additional suspects and uncover deeper linkages.

An FIR has been registered under relevant provisions of the Arms Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station SSOC SAS Nagar.

The explosion had taken place on Wednesday evening near the BJP office in Sector 37, Chandigarh. No casualties were reported.(NVI)
