New Delhi (NVI): Islamabad Police today tried to stop families of Baloch missing persons from marching towards D-Chowk, however, the protestors succeeded in crossing the police hurdles.
The families are staging a sit-in demonstration at D-Chowk in the Pakistan’s capital, according to The Balochistan Post.
Several rights activists and students are also taking part in the demonstration.
The sit-in protest was yesterday announced by the Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP), who have have been protesting in front of the press club for the past five days.
They said that they will sit on the road until the Prime Minister of Pakistan comes personally to assure them of the safe recovery of their loved ones.
Prior to this sit-in protest at D-Chowk, families of Baloch missing persons and activists have been sitting in a protest camp in front of Islamabad press club since February 11.
They demanded recovery of their loved ones, some of whom have gone missing for almost a decade.
The victim families have alleged that the government’s commission formed to trace enforced disappearances is only wasting everyone’s time, according to media reports.
‘Enforced disappearances’ are a major human rights issue in Balochistan. Various independent sources have placed the figure of the missing persons in Balochistan in thousands.
