Srinagar, Aug 3 (NVI): Two prominent political faces from rival parties today joined National Conference (NC) whose leader Omar Abdullah welcomed them by saying that the upcoming Assembly elections are a collective fight for addressing the problems of Jammu and Kashmir.

“This is not only my fight. It is a collective fight in which everyone has to contribute, because the benefit is for all the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” the former Chief Minister said while talking to the media.

His comments to the media came after Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Advocate Syed Riyaz Ahmed Khawar from Rajpora in Pulwama district and Apni Party’s Pulwama district president Riyaz Ahmed Bhat joined the NC.

Omar said the NC forged a pre-poll alliance with Congress and the decision wasn’t too easy. “We sacrificed our seats, even where we were sure of a victory,” he said.

He then took a swipe at former Chief Minister and leader of DPAP Ghulam Nabi Azad.

As NC and Congress came together, Azad has decided to stay away from campaigning and has asked his party members to decide what to do.

Azad is a former leader of the Congress.

Omar said that NC has promised that if voted to power, the Public Safety Act (PSA) will be rolled back.

“We will stop harassment and arrests of youth,” he said.

He also mentioned about various promises made by the NC in its election manifesto. (NVI)
