Jammu (NVI): Industrial Training Institute (ITI) courses are being upgraded in line with industrial demand in Jammu and Kashmir for better job opportunities to skilled youth, J&K UT Principal Secretary, Skill Development Department, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon said today.
The Principal Secretary said this while chairing a review meeting held in the Union Territory in this regard.
During the meeting, Samoon said that due to evolving changes in technology in the past few years industries require added manpower to cater to this change.
He also appreciated the role of industries in Jammu for placement of about 1,500 ITI and Polytechnic pass outs in recent months.
At the meeting, it was informed that at present 52 government and 34 private ITIs are training about 13,000 youth in engineering trades (architecture, draftsman, turner, instrument mechanic, mechanic motor vehicle), Non engineering trades (computer, data entry, computer hardware and networking, desktop publishing, digital photography, fashion designing).
Besides, short term courses also offered in these ITIs which include electrician, mobile phone hardware repair, web developer, automotive service technician Level 4, CA store technician, hair stylist, solar panel technician and field engineering among others.
It was also informed that Job oriented courses like textiles designing, accountancy, nursing, mechtronics, textile designing and vegetable dye printing are also being introduced in the Union Territory.
Apart from this, three month courses have also been started recently which include electrician (Domestic), field technician, office assistant, plumbing, mobile phone repair, air conditioner repair, front office associate, travel consultant, automatic service technician and pulp processing for 707 students in 24 ITIs under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 3.
Furthermore, the industries representatives also gave their suggestions in the meeting regarding introduction of several new courses which have great market value.
Mission Director, Skill Development Mission, Syed Abid Rashid Shah and Director, Skill Development, Sajad Hussain Ganie with representatives of industries from across Jammu & Kashmir also participated in the meeting.
