Srinagar, Sep 02 (NVI): Spreading its wings, jailed Member Parliament from north Kashmir Er Sheikh Rashid’s Awami Itehad Party (AIP) today welcomed three prominent faces in the party.

Former MLC Yasir Reshi from Sumbal-Sonawari area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district joined AIP today. The new jonings come just two days after Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) president Sheikh Ashiq joined the party.

Besides Reshi, who was initially with the PDP and then joined Sajad Lone’s Peoples Conference and now joined AIP, other two new faces include Prof Naseer Ahmed, who has quit government job and advocate Raja Ashraf Ali Khan of Wangath-Kangan area of Central Kashmir.

Addressing the press conference in Srinagar AIP Chief Spokesman Inam un-Nabi said that yesterday, Er Rashid’s son went to Tihar jail to meet his father. “Rashid sahib told his son that whosoever wants to join the AIP must take an oath that they will strive hard for the people’s issues and bear whatever issues they confront. The new entrants were administered an oath on the occasion.

Asked whether Yasir Reshi would be given a mandate to contest from Sonwari constituency, Inam un Nabi said “No doubt about that.” He also announced the party’s list of candidates for Central Kashmir stating that Sheikh Ashiq will contest from Ganderbal, Muhammad Maqbool Beigh from Hazratbal, Ishtiyaq Qadiri from Habba Kadal, Advocate Javaid Hubbi, (the son of a former separatist leader) from Charar-e-Shareef.

Advocate Raja Ashraf Ali Khan, from Wangath, Kangan will also get a mandate to contest from Kangan Schedule Tribe (ST) seat. It may be recalled that Er Rashid won the recently held Parliamentary polls with a huge margin defeating Omar Abdullah of NC and Sajad Gani Lone of Peoples Conference from North Kashmir Lok Sabha seat.
