New Delhi (NVI): External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar will be on a three-day official visit to Sri Lanka on January 5 and 7, at the invitation of the Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.
During his visit, Jaishankar will hold discussions with his counterpart and Sri Lanka’s leadership on the entire series of bilateral relations, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.
He will call on Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Dinesh Gunawardena.
According to the MEA statement, this visit marks the first foreign visit for EAM Jaishankar in the 2021 and also the first arrival of a high level foreign dignitary to Sri Lanka in the New Year.
The visit “signifies the priority both countries attach to strengthening their close and cordial relations in all spheres of mutual interest,” the MEA stated.
However, the visit is arranged through the air-bubble due to the COVID-19 travel restrictions in both countries.
