Srinagar, Sep 3 (NVI): Police in north Kashmir’s Sopore on Thursday attached two double-storey buildings, six shops and two kanals of land in Dooru village following completion of legal proceedings under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, officials said.
The attached properties include the premises of Islamia Model School, Dooru, which were identified during an investigation into a case registered under Sections 10 and 13 of the UAPA, they said.
According to officials, the school has remained closed since 2022. During the investigation, scrutiny of official and revenue records and verification from the concerned authorities allegedly established links between the properties and the proscribed Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir (JeI).
The properties were notified under Section 8(1) of the UAPA by the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, through an order issued on August 12, officials said.
Subsequently, on the request of Sopore Police, the District Magistrate, Baramulla, issued orders under Sections 8(3) and 8(4) of the Act, following which police, accompanied by an Executive Magistrate, carried out the attachment in accordance with the prescribed legal procedure.
Police said the action was part of a sustained investigation into properties and assets allegedly linked to proscribed organisations and their networks.
The police said it would continue to take lawful action against proscribed organisations and prevent the use of properties allegedly linked to such groups for activities prohibited under law.—(NVI)
