J&K: 4 LeT terrorists killed in encounter in Shopian district, ops on

Srinagar (NVI): Four terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces, that broke out this morning, in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district.

According to officials, the terrorists were associated with Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit and have been identified as Raes Ahmed Bhatt, Amir Shafi Mir and Aqib Malik.

The identity of one more terrorist killed is yet to be ascertained.

According to an official statement, at about 10.15 PM yesterday, security forces including Army’s 34RR, CRPF’s 178 Bn and SOG Zainapora cordoned off the Batpora Mohallah of Manihal village in Shopian.

When the forces approached towards suspected house of Irshad Ahmad Wani, resident of Batapora in Manihal, the terrorists hiding in the area fired upon them from a house at about 2 am.

The forces retaliated and this led to a massive exchange of gunfire in which four terrorists of Lashkar-e-Mustafa were gunned down.

The slain terrorists have been identified as Aamir Shafi from Batapora in Shopian, Rayees Ahmad Bhat from DK Pora in Shopian, Aaqib Malik, from Arshipora in Shopian, Altaf Ahmad Wani from Dachipora.

One Army soldier also got injuried in the encounter, they said. The target house was completely damaged but no collateral damage took place.

One Ak-47 rifle and three pistols were also recovered from the operation. The joint operation concluded at 09:30 am in the morning. The dead bodies were shifted to PCR Srinagar.

After the withdrawal of the forces, minor stone pelting was also reported but the situation is under control now.
