J&K: Army jawan shoots himself dead in Jammu

Jammu (NVI): An Army jawan shot himself dead using his service rifle inside a camp in Jammu, officials said today.

He shot himself at Raipir camp in Belicharana area late Sunday night, officials added.

Nitish Mishra, a 26-year-old resident of Madhya Pradesh, was on sentry duty.

They further stated that the soldier died on the spot and his body was removed by police for medical and legal formalities.

Post-mortem of the body was conducted at a hospital this morning and later handed over to the concerned unit.

An investigation is being conducted by the police.

The motive behind the soldier shooting himself was not known immediately, they said.
