Srinagar(NVI): The Jammu and Kashmir unit of BJP held a ‘tiranga yatra’ in Srinagar today, on the occasion of J&K Accession Day, against the remarks passed by PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti regarding tri-color.
This comes after People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti, who was released from detention on October 13, said that she will not hoist or raise the tricolour till the flag of Jammu and Kashmir was restored.
Several BJP leaders and activists assembled at Shere Kashmir Park Sonawar area and protested against Mehbooba Mufti’s statements.
Members including Sofi Yousuf, Altaf Thakur and others were seen raising pro-India slogans and demanded authorities to book Mehbooba like anti-national elements under seditious act.
Chanting slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’, the workers were trying to unfurl the tricolour at Lal Chowk, Srinagar, but were prevented by the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Mufti was detained in August last year after the government abrogated Article 370 and revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Following Mehbooba Mufti’s remarks, the BJP accused PDP president of “disrespecting” the Indian flag and asserted that the revocation of Article 370 was done constitutionally and that it will not be restored.
“Today, we celebrated Accession Day. On this day, Maharaja Hari Singh acceded to India in 1947 and we are thankful to him that he saved us from the clutches of invaders,” BJP J&K spokesperson Altaf Thakur said.
He said that they took out a rally from Tagore Hall to SKICC that passed through the gate of Mehbooba Mufti’s Gupkar residence.
Later, scores of BJP workers including women chanted “Bharat Mata ki Jai” slogans at SKICC to mark the Day. BJP workers gave a salute to the national flag and sung the national anthem as well.
