Srinagar, Sep 04 (NVI): Apni Party Chief Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari today filed the nomination papers from Chanapora assembly constituency stating that Apni Party doesn’t support any party nor will get support from any one.

Bukhari along with scores of workers reached Srinagar MunicipalCorporation (SMC) to file his nomination papers from the newly carved Chanapora Constituency before the Returning Officer (RO).

Talking to reporters, Bukhari said the Apni Party is contesting on its own capability. “We don’t support any one nor have we sought any party or leaders support,” Bukhari said.

On how he sees that three former Chief Ministers of erstwhile State of J&K—Ghulam Nabi Azad, Dr Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti aren’t contesting elections this time around, he said: “I can’t comment on this. This is their own decision. May God bless them all.”

Bukhari is seen as a strong candidate for Chanapora constituency. He choose a different campaigning style by going door to door, explaining his party’s vision to the people. Recently, Bukhari was seen carrying out his campaigning in the interior areas of Chanapora constituency early morning amid rains. He assured the voters that their grievances will be addressed if they vote for him. Chanapora constituency was carved after fresh delimitation exercise.

Bukhari will face National Conference candidate Mushtaq Ahmed Guroo and PDP’s Muhammad Iqbal Tramboo. After parting ways from PDP, Bukhari floated Apni Party which was joined by the majority of former PDP MLAs and ministers. Eventhough Bukhari seems comfortable,  he will face a tough contest from the NC candidate Guroo who is banking on the party’s old guard and committed vote bank.

National Conference is the oldest political denomination of the J&K and enjoys deep-rooted support given its vast vote bank since late Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah’s time. This is the only party that remained intact post abrogation of Article 370 as none of its leaders quit the party unlike PDP and other small parties.(News Vibes of India)
