Srinagar (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir government today requested the Foreign Secretary, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, to seek evacuation of UT residents stranded in Oman, Dubai and Iran.

The letter written by J&K Chief Secretary B V R Subrahmanyam reads that the Union Territory government has received requests from its residents stranded in Oman, Dubai and Iran for their early evacuation.

“Their prolonged stay abroad during the COVID-19 pandemic has made these stranded people restless and fearful of catching the disease in a foreign country,” the letter reads. “They are also desirous of celebrating Eid festival, on May 25, in Jammu and Kashmir.”

It further states that, “I would, therefore, request your personal intervention in prioritizing the evacuation of residents of Jammu and Kashmir stranded in Oman, Dubai and Iran.”

B V R Subrahmanyam further said that as part of the ‘Vande Bharat Mission’, J&K students stranded in Bangladesh are being evacuated to Srinagar. “This step has been greatly appreciated by the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
