Srinagar, Apr 27 (NVI): The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has quashed the detention of Mehraj Malik under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act, granting relief to the legislator, officials said on Monday.
The court set aside the preventive detention order after hearing a habeas corpus petition challenging his detention, they said.
Malik, an Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Doda, was detained on September 8, 2025, over allegations of activities prejudicial to public order and was lodged in Kathua district jail.
The petition was heard on multiple dates, and the court had reserved its verdict on February 23 after completion of arguments from both sides.
With the detention order now quashed, Malik is likely to be released after completion of legal formalities, unless required in connection with any other case, officials said.(NVI)
