J&K records highest single-day spike with 162 new Covid-19 cases

Srinagar (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory today recorded the highest single-day spike of Covid-19 cases, as 162 people tested positive for the virus, taking the UT’s tally to 1,921.

Earlier in the day, the J&K reported two deaths due to coronavirus, taking the death toll in the UT to 26. 23 have died in Kashmir and 3 in Jammu.

Officials said that among new 162 cases, 32 were tested positive at SKIMS, 89 at CD hospital, 18 at Army’s command hospital, Udhampur and rest at other private labs.

Among 162 new cases, 124 belong to Kashmir division while 38 are from Jammu division, officials said. They said that the total number of positive cases in Kashmir division has reached 1,535 including 759 recoveries, while the total number of positive cases in Jammu has reached 386 including 95 recoveries.

They said that the total number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir is 1,041 including 753 from Kashmir and 288 from Jammu.

Cases tested positive in J&K today include 4 from Anantnag, 27 from Kulgam, 20 from Srinagar, 2 from Budgam, 26 from Kupwara, 12 from Shopian, 10 from Baramulla, 2 from Bandipora and 21 from Pulwama in Kashmir division while 38 from Jammu include 11 each from Udhampur and Poonch, 4 from Jammu district, 3 each from Kathua, Samba and Reasi, 2 from Rajouri and one from Ramban.

As per the daily information bulletin, 146,152 persons in Jammu and Kashmir are under observation while 31,919 persons have been kept under home quarantine. Apart from that, 1,041 persons are in hospital isolation while 57 persons are under hospital quarantine.

According to the bulletin, 77,266 persons have completed the surveillance period and 35,843 persons are under home surveillance.

So far, results of 145,162 samples are available out of which 143,241 samples tested negative. Among positive cases, 1041 are active, 854 have recovered and 26 have died.
