Srinagar (NVI): A youth was shot at in Nildoora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district this evening by unknown gunmen and succumbed on way to Srinagar hospital later, police officials said.
According to a police official, suspected militants fired upon a youth identified as Subzar Ahmad Naiko in Nildoora village.
Subzar, who was working in the Rural Development Department (RDD), suffered serious bullet injuries and was shifted to district hospital for treatment from where he was referred to SMHS for advanced treatment.
However, he succumbed to injuries on the way to Srinagar hospital, the official said.
Medical Superintendent, SMHS Srinagar, Dr Nazir Choudhary said that he was brought dead to the hospital.
Subzar had received bullet injuries in his abdomen and thigh, he added.
Soon after he was attacked, a police officer said that security forces launched a hunt to nab the attackers.
Meanwhile, the police has registered a case under relevant sections of IPC at police station Shopian and further investigation has been taken up.
