J&K police permits seizure of assets to restrict terrorism under UAPA

New Delhi (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir police has accorded permission in 46 cases for seizure of various assets of individuals or associations to restrict terror activities in the union territory under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967.

“J&K police along with other security forces and investigation agencies is fighting the challenges of the terrorism at various fronts,” Jammu and Kashmir police wrote in a series of tweets.

“While the number of terrorists belonging to different terror outfits is neutralized in the sustained anti-terror operations, the handlers are using motor vehicles and the proceeds of terrorists for furthering their evil designs,” police added.

The further noted, “Following the due procedures of the law the Jammu and Kashmir Police has in last couple of years or so accorded sanction for seizure/attachments of four wheelers, motorcycles, cash, land houses and shops through different orders to ensure that the terror activities are under check.”

Under this Act, 61 vehicles, which include 02 trucks/trailer, 1 tipper, 4 Alto 800 cars, 2 Hyundai Creta, 1 Maruti Echo, 1 Baleno, 4 Santro, 1 Asta, 2 Wagon R, 1 Mahindra Quanta, 1 Auto (Tata Zip), 2 Maruti Swift, 18 Motor Cycles, 5 Scooty, 2 Auto load carrier etc has been seized.

In addition to this, Rs 3,70,000 cash, cheques worth Rs 50,000 has also been seized.

Meanwhile, under immovable property, 5 houses including house of Mehmooda Begum mother-in- law of Aasiya Andrabi of banned Dukhtran Milat, 6 shops belonging to Nazir Ahmad Wani of Pulwama and 1 Kanal, 6 marlas of land was seized.

In 2021 so far, PHQ has accorded sanction for seizure of eleven vehicles which includes 6 four-wheelers and 5 two-wheelers. The permission for seizure has been granted under section 25 Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967.
