“During investigation of the case, SOG Jammu apprehended five more suspects involved in the module – Toqeer Ahmad Batt, Asif Batt, Khalid Latief Batt, Gazi Iqbal and Tariq Hussain Mir – who have admitted their involvement in the case,” the police statement read.

He said that all the accused were in contact with Pakistani handlers Haroon alias Khubaib and Muhammad Amin Batt who remained as district commander of LeT in Doda and exfiltrated to Pakistan in 2006.

The spokesman said that all the accused were tasked to identify gullible youth for recruitment in terror ranks, providing logistics support and strengthening LeT cadre in the region, sharing information about presence of security forces and their important locations to Pakistani handlers.

“Transportation of arms and ammunition from one location to another and distributing money among the families of active and deceased terrorists,” he said.

He further said that during questioning of all the accused people, it came to fore that they received money amounting to Rs 12, 19,704 through different means on different occasions as part of this module. “They were also instrumental in recruiting Abid Ahmed Bhat and Jamal Din.”

“During interrogation of the suspect, Mohd. Irfan Khan, it came out that in the beginning of July, he along with two associates Gazi Iqbal and Amir Batt hoisted Pakistani flag at Lal Draman area as they were tasked by Haroon to do so.”

He said that it has been further corroborated by the disclosure of Gazi Iqbal who admitted that he received a call from Pakistan handler Haroon for hoisting Pak flag and subsequently he purchased cloth from a local shop at Doda town and stitched that flag by himself.

“On August 5 this year on the disclosure of Tariq Hussain Mir, SOG Jammu recovered 3 more tiffin boxes from his house including Rs 40,700 which he received as consignment on different occasions from Pak handlers as part of this module.”

The spokesman further said that in continuation to the investigation of the above mentioned terrorist financing case, the involvement of four accused from Kashmir has also surfaced. “Moreover it has come to the notice that the module has its links in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab as well,” he added.

“Further investigation into the case is underway to unearth terrorist financing channels and associates’ networks used for providing financial support and motivating youth for spreading terror in the valley,” the spokesman said.
