Srinagar, Jan 24(NVI): In a concerted effort to combat the rising drug menace in society, the Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted a series of operations across multiple districts, leading to the arrest of seven drug peddlers and the recovery of significant quantities of contraband and psychotropic substances.
A Police team from Bijbehara, during a checkpoint at Bonpora Uranhal, intercepted an auto-rickshaw (registration number JK01K-2485) carrying three individuals. The accused, identified as Zubair Ahmad Dar of Khanabal Batangoo, Muzafar Ahmad Dar of Uranhal, and Umar Majeed Ganie of Chee Anantnag, were found with 2.8 kilograms of Charas powder.
In another operation in Srigufwara, police apprehended a suspicious individual near Chek Poshkreeri. The man, identified as Mohd Shafi Ganie of Chek Poshkreeri, attempted to flee but was quickly detained. A search of his bag revealed 1.458 kilograms of cannabis powder.
In Tujjer Shareef, police from PS Bomai arrested Abdul Hameed Lone of Tujjer Shareef during routine patrolling. A search uncovered 20 grams of heroin-like substance in his possession.
Separately, a checkpoint at Behrampora Drusoo Rafiabad, manned by Police Post Watergam, resulted in the arrest of Shabir Ahmad Ganie of Behrampora. Officers recovered 1.2 kilograms of Charas-like substance during the operation.
In Trehgam, police intercepted Ashiq Ahmad Mochi of Mochi Mohalla near the local Sumo Stand. A search led to the seizure of 55 grams of Charas-like substance from his possession.
The J&K Police remain committed to eradicating drug abuse and ensuring public safety. Authorities have urged residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station. These collective efforts aim to create a drug-free society in Jammu and Kashmir.
