Srinagar, Mar 3 (NVI): The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday issued an advisory urging media professionals and the public to adhere to the principles of responsible journalism and verify information before sharing it.

In a statement, the police cautioned against publishing or circulating unverified and speculative reports, saying that the spread of rumours and misinformation could create panic, disturb public order and endanger lives.

The advisory stressed that accuracy and credibility are essential, particularly during sensitive situations, and appealed to journalists and social media users to rely only on confirmed information.

“Responsible journalism matters” and “verify before you report” were the key messages highlighted by the police.

The police also warned that those spreading rumours could face serious consequences and urged all stakeholders to act with caution and accountability.

Responsible reporting plays a vital role in maintaining peace and stability, the statement said.(NVI)
