Srinagar, Sep 06 (NVI): After his nomination papers were rejected from Zainapora Assembly seat in Shopian for not having the mandatory oath certificate, jailed cleric Sarjan Barkati today filed nomination papers from two other Assembly constituencies —Ganderbal and Beerwah.
Ganderbal is a high profile Assembly constituency from where National Conference Vice president Omar Abdullah is contesting.
PDP has fielded Bashir Mir to take on Omar Abdullah, a former Chief Minister.
Sarjan Barkati along with his wife is lodged in jail on charges of terror funding.
On behalf of Sarjan Barkati, his daughter, Sugra Barkati, filed the nomination papers today, the last date for the purpose.
It was not clear whether his nomination papers this time include the mandatory oath certificate.
She was accompanied by a social activist Adil Nazir Khan.
Talking to reporters later, she hoped that her father would be able to contest the Assembly elections.
She said the rejection of Sarjan Barkati’s nomination papers from Zainapora has been challenged in the court and she was hopeful of a favourable outcome.
Khan said he was having full faith in the constitution and the democracy.
“I am glad that the nomination papers of Barkati have been accepted from two seats,” he said.(NVI)
